Earlier this year, I supported proposals from the Department for Transport (DfT) to strengthen restrictions on night flights at Heathrow. Specifically, the DfT was looking at banning the loudest “QC4” aircraft movements (for example a Boeing 747 taking off) between 23:30 and 06:00. Currently, these aircraft can’t be scheduled between 23:30 and 06:00, but can operate if delayed.
This week the DfT has announced that this ban will be implemented from October next year. This is great news for the local community, and particularly for those living in Walton and Molesey.
This is an important local win. Local residents have repeatedly raised the disruption and inconvenience caused by Heathrow night flights with me over recent years, and this will make a real difference in tackling both.
