The disruption and inconvenience caused by night flights at Heathrow has been raised with me repeatedly over recent years. It is a serious problem locally, and particularly in Molesey and Walton.
This is why I am supporting proposals by the Department for Transport (DfT) to reinforce the restrictions on these flights. Specifically, the DfT is looking to ban the loudest ‘QC4’ aircraft movements (for example a Boeing 747 on departure) between 23:30 and 06:00. Before the pandemic, these aircraft were the loudest in regular service at any major airport.
This step would bring a welcome improvement to residents’ quality of life. The DfT has also said that introducing this restriction could lead to a more extensive ban on movements of these aircraft in future, potentially from 23:00 – 07:00.
