It was great to join the Claygate Primary School Parents Association at the Hare & Hounds on Friday afternoon, following their golf day to raise funds for the new Claygate community pool.
I’ve been supporting Claygate Primary’s plans to renovate their swimming pool – turning the outdoor pool into an indoor facility – since March. This will be used by pupils during term time, and will be available at low cost for the local community outside school hours.
It was good to hear that the construction team have been onsite since August, and are on schedule to deliver the pool for early spring next year. The Parents Association is now looking to raise money for the second phase of the project, to provide facilities including changing rooms and a kitchen.
Friday’s golf day was a great event, brilliantly organised by Katie Holmes (Chair of the Parents Association) and Andreas Schoeler (both pictured above), as well as Tish Schoeler, Ruth Box, and Nick from the Hare & Hounds. There was an auction at the pub, with attendees bidding for tiles on the pool’s community tile wall, designed by local artist Laila Carruthers.
It’s very encouraging to see this project progressing so well – I’m looking forward to seeing it completed.
