I enjoyed catching up with Lionel Frewin, Steve Heard and the team at the Cobham Rugby and Sports Association today.
Together with Paula Carter from the Rugby Football Union, we had a good discussion about the association’s plans for the future. They are, for example, looking at developing the facilities available to the tennis and netball club, including improving the tennis court surfaces to allow for more use by nearby schools.
The team also outlined their ambition for broadening the association’s membership, and reaching out to disadvantaged local children who could really benefit from the sports on offer. I’ll be keeping in touch with the association to see how I can help with these exciting plans.
Finally, we discussed the challenges that Coronavirus has posed for rugby clubs – particularly the limitations to contact rugby. I know that this has been difficult, but I was impressed with what they’ve been doing to keep some activities going through the pandemic. My thanks to Lionel, Steve, Paula and everyone at the club for hosting me today.
