Last week, I met with parents at Walton Oak alongside Councillor Matt Furniss, the Cabinet Member for Highways on Surrey County Council, to discuss road safety on Ambleside Avenue.
It is reassuring to hear that Surrey County Council are progressing with getting a permanent zebra crossing implemented outside Walton Oak. It is important that local residents are consulted about any changes to the road where they are living, so it is planned that Walton Oak will start benefitting from the crossing by the 2023 academic year.
However, I understand how vital it is to improve the safety of Ambleside Avenue as soon as possible for all the pupils and parents travelling to and from school, and, therefore, I am pressing Surrey County Council to ensure the crossing is implemented without delay and explore any possibilities to improve road safety in the meantime.
Thank you to Councillor Matt Furniss, all the parents who came to share their concerns, and Mary Ellen McCarthy, Executive Principal, for organising.
