Helping the most vulnerable through the Coronavirus challenge

It was good to visit the East Elmbridge Foodbank at Esher Green Baptist Church today. I was impressed with how – given the social distancing measures and guidelines that are now in place – the local council and voluntary groups are gearing up to support the most needy in our community.

New funding to fix potholes

The recent Budget announced a new £2.5 billion fund to fix 50 million potholes by the end of 2024. This is good news for drivers across Elmbridge – and Surrey as a whole – who I know are regularly inconvenienced by potholes.

Update on Coronavirus

As the Prime Minister has said, the coronavirus pandemic is the worst public health crisis for a generation. We will get through it by working through the government’s action plan to contain, delay, research and mitigate the virus.

Today I had a useful meeting with Dr Jill Evans, Senior Partner at Esher Green Surgery and Chair, East Elmbridge Locality, at Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group.

Surrey’s 1.2 Million New Trees Initiative

Today, I was delighted to join Surrey County Council Leader, Tim Oliver, and pupils at Cranmere Primary School in Esher to plant a cherry blossom tree as part of Surrey County Council’s commitment to plant 1.2 million new trees – one for every resident – by 2030.

Domestic abuse devastates the lives of over two million victims and their families every year. No victim should have to struggle to get support, so I welcome the announcement of significant new funding for domestic abuse refuge services in Surrey.

Catching up with Esher & District CAB

Today I had a good meeting with Elaine Bissell and Sarah Waite from the Esher & District Citizens Advice Bureau. We caught up on a range of important issues for local residents including mental health, Personal Independence Payments, Universal Credit and housing.
