This morning I paid a virtual visit to Rowan Preparatory School in Claygate, speaking about politics to their year six pupils.
I explained how and why I got involved in politics and what my role as Foreign Secretary involves. I also talked about politics more generally, including the importance of elections, what politicians do and how the House of Commons works.
This was a good reminder that visits like these, even when they have to be done virtually, are important opportunities to help young people to understand a bit more about politics. The pupils’ curiosity and enthusiasm came through in their questions, which was great to see. My thanks to them, and to Headmistress Susan Clarke and year five and six Phase Leader Anja Pedersen-Webster who organised the session.
