Earlier today I headed over to Esher High to meet some of the GCSE Citizenship pupils. It’s great that, thanks to local residents’ perseverance and the success of the vaccine rollout, these visits can happen in person again.
After a chat with the Headteacher Mike Boddington and dropping in on some other classes, I had a good, hour-long Q&A session with the impressive year 10 Citizenship pupils. They asked me about a huge range of issues related to government and politics, including climate chance and LGBT rights. As ever, I found it very encouraging to see such enthusiasm for politics and democratic participation in young Elmbridge residents.
This was also a good opportunity to thank Mike, and Citizenship teacher Philippa Lockhart, for all the hard work that they and the whole school community have put in throughout the pandemic. It’s been a very tough time for schools, but it was great to see Esher High almost back to normal and full of keen pupils. I look forward to visiting again soon.
