It was a pleasure to meet Ana Dumitru - the winner of my Apprentice of the Year competition – and the team at Haig-Brown Opticians.
I presented Ana – who was nominated by her boss for her enthusiasm for learning and the excellent progress she has made in her training – with a certificate and a prize.
Ana is one of the first apprentices that Haig-Brown opticians have recruited under the government’s apprenticeship scheme, and she is currently working as an apprentice to a dispensing optician while studying towards an optical assistant level 1 course.
We talked about Ana’s keen interest in the technology and science that optometrists use to treat patients and her plans for the future.
